An update on two former CTHGC golfers.....
Two former CoolTweed golfers have been in the golfing news recently for some very good reasons.
Brad Kennedy has won his first Japan Golf Tour event with a 3 shot victory at the Mizuno Open at the Setonaikia Golf Club. Brad had a share of the lead heading into the last round but proved far too good on the final day with a front nine of 32 going on to shoot 66 for a 72 hole total of 17 under par for a 3 stroke win. He is in his second year on the Japan Tour and pockets $278,000 for his trouble. As an added bonus he also secured a place in the field for this year’s Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes as this tournament served as the Japan Tour qualifying for the 2012 Open Championship. Brad must like the tournament as he finished 5th in the same tournament last year securing a place in the 2011 Open Championship where he missed the cut so will be looking for an improved showing this year. For those recent members, Brad was a trainee to former CoolTweed Pro Geoff Parslow in the 90's and was actually Club Pro for a year or so before Russ Davis was appointed.

And on the Nationwide Tour in the USA our own Scott Gardiner finished in a tie for 4th in the Wichita Open in Kansas following the low round of 65 in the final round to rocket up the leaderboard. At the close of the tournament Scott is in 25th position on the all important money list as at the end of the year the leading 25 money winners receive their card for the main PGA Tour next year. Interesting to note that with 3 top 10 finishes already this year Scott has earned just over $80,000 showing just what a tough grind life as a Pro is and his 185 event career on the Nationwide has netted him just over the million dollar mark. A few stats for this year show his average driving distance is 280 metres with 65% of fairways hit followed by 70% of greens in regulation and an average of 30 putts. And further news on the Nationwide Tour is that it has been renamed the Web.Com Tour as of this week which doesn't quite have the same ring to it!!
Congratulations Samantha!
Samantha Foley one of our very talented Juniors (handicap of 2 and only 14 years old), with playing partner Kevin Marques from Indooroopilly GC have successfully combined to win the 2012 Queensland Mixed Foursomes Championship at Virginia Golf Club recently.
Foley and Marques shared a tie for the lead with three other pairs at the conclusion of the morning round when they fired a solid score of 73 (2-over par). Samantha and Kevin had a mixed bag in the afternoon with four birdies, a double bogey and two bogies. However the thirty six hole total of two over par (73,71=144) proved to be enough to hold off the runners up of Toomey and Ona who finished in second place with scores of 73, 75 (148). Well done Samantha and Kevin.
Club Championships start next week!
Let's hope the rain decides to stop in time for the Club Championships starting on Saturday 7th July. The first two rounds are to be played on the River and there are a few spots still available in the morning field.
A reminder that all players in buggies are eligible to win the Gross event except A Grade. A Grade players are required to submit a medical certificate to be eligible to win the Gross.

It's raining again.....
Our Club competition sponsor for today was John Wolfe - Australian Insurance Solutions but due to the continous light rain and cold conditions (well for Tweed anyway, presently 14 Deg) and many members choosing not to play today it has been decided to postpone the sponsorship to a later date. Today's competition will be sponsored by the "Club" instead.

Guy Yuile one of our regular golfing members played an "intersting" shot on the 12th River last Saturday (as seen in this photo)! Well it didn't do him any harm as he had a real Hole In One today on the 3rd River. Well done Guy, practice makes perfect as they say! Thank one of your friends for sending this for publication.....
