1st Round of Miller Kingston Knockout today, Monthly Medal next Saturday and 2nd Round of Miller Kingston Knockout on Sat 16th February. Due to various issues the Calcutta did not take place last night and therefore no Calcutta for this year.

Golf Queensland Announces Junior Interstate Teams

Golf Queensland has announced the 2013 Queensland Junior Interstate Boys' and Girls' Teams to compete in Western Australia in April.

Golf Queensland's Head Coach, Tony Meyer said all selected players thoroughly deserve their places on the teams. "All players have had fantastic results over the past couple of months and are looking forward to representing their home state.
"It will be exciting for many of the new members of the teams who will be playing in their first Interstate Teams Championship. It is an important event in our players' development" he said. Queensland has had an excellent record in this tournament in the past, with the Girls' Team winning four of the last five Championships.

Bob Morisset

Sadly we advise that Bob died suddenly on Sunday at the age of 72 years. He was a multiple Club Champion in the 60's and a long term employee and a golfing member of 50 years. His funeral is Tuesday 5th February at 11am DST, ST Cuthberts Church, Tweed Heads. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends.

FRIDAY 1ST FEBRUARY

Both courses will be open tomorrow (Friday) but NO carts will be allowed.

ATTENTION VETERAN GOLFERS

Our annual trip to Redland Bay is scheduled for Monday 4th March 2013 and nomination sheet will up in the members lounge next Thursday 7th February and will close the following Thursday 16th February. We have been washed out the past couple of years so hoping to see the sun this year.

We are limited to 30 players and at this stage will only take one bus which will carry 20 players maximum, those of you who live north of the border may elect to drive and avoid the trip down to the club. If you wish to partner up please indicate on sheet.

We are advised that cost should be $25- (includes light lunch) and carts also $25- (pay on day).

Remember complete envelope, include money, then into the box.

If you can offer a couple of hours of your time – Wednesday 30th or Thursday 31^st  Peter Lonergan & his staff would appreciate your help.

Hand pick up branches, rake leaves etc and put in piles on side of fairways.

8:00 am – Please meet at Course Shed in Davies Street (off Kirkwood Road). Please bring gloves & drink.

A notice will be sent out Thursday afternoon re. course condition for rest of week.

 

NEWS FLASH - CONGRATULATIONS BECKY!

Becky Kay (CTHGC Junior) has just been notified & invited to play in this week’s Australian Ladies Masters at Royal Pines. This is a 3 day event, playing Friday & Saturday and if she makes the cut she will play in the final on Sunday. Becky is one of 4 amateurs selected to play and at 14 years old she is no doubt one of the youngest playing.

CTHGC members are invited to go along and support Becky, with free tournament passes available from the CTHGC Pro shop.

Congratulations Becky on being selected and all of CTHGC members wish you the best of luck.

Golf Courses closed tomorrow

Both courses are closed tomorrow due to extreme weather conditions which has caused major damage to both courses with many trees blown over. Please check club website for further updates tomorrow.

TEE TIME CHANGES FOR SATURDAY 2ND FEBRUARY

The Miller Kingston Knockout starts next week on the West Course and due to various issues it has been necessary to move some members tee times and/or course that they are playing that day.

It is advisable for all members to check their tee time when the timesheets are uploaded later today.

Cadets return as scheduled but there are no reserved junior lines for this week. All juniors are required to book a tee time wherever available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Update on Becky Kay

Becky Kay and fellow Queenslander Amy Walsh were sent by Golf Queensland to compete in the South Australian Junior Masters held at The Royal Adelaide Golf Club.   Amy finished 1st with Becky coming second by 1 shot. The Queensland team of Becky and Amy also won the interstate team event.

Becky stayed in Adelaide and two days later competed in the 2013 Golf SA Junior Amateur Championships held at Kooyonga GC, The Grange GC and Glenelg GC all sand-belt courses in Adelaide.  Becky lead the field by 1 shot after the first day at Kooyonga but found herself 2 shots behind at the end of the second day at The Grange. She started the third day at Glenelg with a bogey on the 1st with the gap now 3 shots,  this stayed the same through 9 holes.  Later Becky found herself 2 behind with 2 to play, then 1 behind with 1 to play tying with Jenny Lee for second.   On the last hole Jenny Lee and Becky hit their drives into the middle of the fairway, whilst the leader found the water twice and was now out of it.  This put everything square between Jenny and Becky who both hit the Green in regulation, Jenny missing a long putt leaving Becky with a 12 foot putt for victory which she sunk finishing -1 for the day.

Congratulations Becky, well done!
